The Ministry Industry
Technology Energy & Commerce is now in the
process of accepting proposals from
community groups who are desirous of having
Community Access Points establish in their
communities. The Ministry will be
equipping these sites with between 3-5
computers to assist the entities' capability
in making internet access available to the
community. The CAP site will be
expected to provide printing and photocopy
services as well as E-government services
along with any other internet based activity
which community members may need.

Access Points Established

The Ministry in some
instances will initiate the contact with
communities by presenting them with a check
list of what the requirements are. The
communities will be invited to present a
profile on their community along with a
business plan if possible. If the
communities meet the required criteria the
necessary follow up actions will take place,
inclusive of assistance in preparing the
business plan, training of CAP site Managers
the arrangement will terminate with the
signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
between both parties.

The Project will finance:

the equipment and
software required for 5-computer CAP sites;

networking and
administration software;

annual conference or
meeting of CAP staff and support personnel
for promotion and the sharing of
experiences;

the costs of implementing
the program in a way that gives technical
support and engages the local community as
a means of fostering sustainability.
